Tobias & Co, Liverpool, fusee with rack lever escapement, 55mm, 14K to 16K gold (tested, with fade of 18K solution on stone and no fade of 14K solution) OF original pair cases bearing Chester hallmarks for 1814, casemaker's incuse "T H" marking, misleading crowned "18" marking, cream colored enamel dial with 60-second seconds-register, hacking slide outside dial at 7, KWKS, rack lever escapement, ornately engraved balance cock with "Patent" marking, gilt mvt with gilt locking dust-cap, s#1795 with matching serial number within case. Comes with a key and within a small unmarked box of later vintage. Gross weight of assembled watch 95.5 dwt (148.5 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, hacking function not operating, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, short scratches surrounding pillar locations, some typical fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere; nearly flawless dial with few very small surface nicks near edge at 5 and at edge at 8:30; nearly mint hands; outer case shows very light wear, some fine scratches, scattered dings and small dents to rear, button latch good; inner case shows very light wear, a prominent crease type dent at lower rear perimeter, some additional dings and mild circumferential denting; bow pivots freely; good glass crystal.
